Is Doing Your Best Enough To Be A Parent?

One of the things that you often hear people say when things don’t go their way is that they did their best. We’re told from a young age that all you can do is your best and that nobody can expect anything more from you, but is that true when you are a parent? Your kids need you to be your best for them as often as you can so that they have a good example growing up, but it’s true when people say that the most important thing is doing the best that you can. Let’s look at how you can do this.

  • Always Show Up

To be able to say that you have done your best to be the best parent possible, you need to always show up for your kids. When they need you, you need to be there, not just buy them material items, and hope that this makes up for your absence. It doesn’t. Showing up for your kids is the ultimate test of love, because there are going to be times when it is difficult for you to do so, but you have got to make it work

When they have a sports game, be there. If they are taking part in a hobby and they have a presentation, be there. At 4 am when they are crying because they need you, be there. If you can say that you showed up when you were needed, no matter how tough it was, then you will have known you have done your best.

  • Fight For Your Kids

Another thing that you have got to do when you are a parent is fighting for your kids. We know that there are people out there who don’t like confrontation, and who don’t like to get involved in any kind of difficult situations, but this is going to be unavoidable when you are a parent. There are going to be times when you need to fight for your kids, and you’ve got to be willing to do that. This might mean fighting to get them out of trouble, it might mean fighting to get someone to take you seriously when you say they need some kind of extra help like speech pathology or help with learning. Whatever it is, you’ve got to be willing to fight.

Don’t Throw In The Towel

Finally, you can’t throw in your towel. Some people will say that they have done their best and now they are done trying, but this means you haven’t done your best at all. Your kids deserve everything that you have to give them, even when it’s hard. You don’t give up on those that you love.

At the end of the day, all we can do is our best, right? You cannot do more than your absolute best, so as long as you are doing this, then yeah, it’s enough. Having said that, there are going to be times when you think that you have done your best and you haven’t, so you always need to ask yourself whether there is any more that you can do. It’s hard, and you’re not always going to get it right, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t worth every second.

We always want the best for our kids! Remember that we, mommas, are all amazing and we’re doing our best not to be a perfect (because it’s really hard) but a good parent to our child!
